Sparrowpaw pushed his way through the windswept grass and stepped out onto the soft clearing. Sand cushioned his tawny paws as he slid to his haunches. The young apprentice was waiting for his mentor to show up for battle training. Now what does that say about his mentor when he had gotten there first? Not that it mattered.
Gazing around he wondered what his mentor was doing, or at least why it was taking so long. Perhaps the cat was consuming a lizard or helping an elder patch a thin place in the den. Who knows. A light breeze ruffled his brown pelt and a few stray strands of grass took flight while the majority swayed gently. Sparrowpaw looked on with an icy look to his copper eyes as they scanned the clearing. Almost lazily except for the fact his black marked tail was twitching. Alert.

Winterwood sat just beyond the meeting place for his apprentice. His ice colored optics gleamed and he turned to look down at his paws. Their soft white fur looked silky and smooth. His thought wandered over the fact that he had an apprentice. Why me? So many others would be so much more qualified! he thought to himself and settled with his paws under his chest to wait.
His head rested on his paws and he looked out over the fields. His ears fell back onto his skull as he watched. His blue pools ever alert for danger or any sign of movement. His ears perked at the sound of pawsteps, and the warrior lifted his head to it. His ears flicked like tiny radars and turned to see a tawny pelt. Sparrowpaw. he noted in his head. He usually spent his time alone, isolated from others, but now with an apprentice Winterwood had to spend time with him.
Practically everyday getting him ready for warriorship. I really hope I dont mess this up... he thought bitterly to himself and got to his paws. Watching as the apprentice waited for his arrival. Stretching out his forepaws he shook out his pelt and started towards the other tom cat. His face calm and emotionless as his eyes shown with a cooling stare. His whiskers twitched as a breeze pushed past him. His lithe and well muscle form glided silently towards the apprentice.
"Glad to see you've made it Sparrowpaw." he mewed, his tone cool and collected. Moving quickly he sat down beside his apprentice. A small smile twitched at his lips but disappeared back into a calm face. "You passed the first test. Finding a place and being on time without my help. Impressive." he mewed flicking his ears and turning to stare down at the young tom. "Well, lets get to it."
Getting back onto his paws he turned to look at Sparrowpaw." Today we will go over hunting techiques." he mewed moving to sit down a good couple fox lengths away. Looking back at him he dipped his head. "Ok, lets see your stalking technique, stalk your way over to me." he instructed lifting his head slightly as he waited.

Finally. You arrive. Sparrowpaw thought as he watched his mentor step forth from his place. The male had been hidden from view until now, and the breeze kept the apprentice from scenting him. How clever. He scolded himself for not thinking that his mentor, Winterwood, would actully be close by, watching. The warrior's icy eyes gazed at him whilst he padded over to Sparrowpaw, alabastor fur silky and soft. The apprentice's cold amber eyes bored into his mentor as the male sunk to his haunches beside him.
"You passed the first test. Finding a place and being on time without my help. Impressive." Impressive? No. Did his mentor not expect him to already be familiar with the territory? Perhaps most apprentices had spent their kithood playing in camp while he explored unnoticed through the moor. He shrugged off his thoughts and twitched an ear in recognition of the praise. Patiently, Sparrowpaw listened for his instructions.
So hunting was his task today. Suppressing a sigh, he slid into a perfect crouch. Well...it would have been perfect but his healed leg reminded him of his accident. The ache in his bone worsened and forced the would-be warrior to distribute his weight unevenly to keep off it. His remaining limbs shook from the extra effort he demanded of them. Concentrating fiercly until he drowned out all other sounds, he slid foreward slowly. Muscles rippled across his slim body revealing a lean strength as he glided forth. Whiskers twitching in irritation, he stood, wincing as he placed his paw upon the soft ground. Silently Sparrowpaw awaited the examination due from his mentor.
